Project Description
Dr. Joyce O’Mahony is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Thompson Rivers University. She brings expertise in public health nursing, and immigrant and refugee women’s community-based mental health care research. Her program of research has been motivated by the need to further the understanding about immigrant women’s perinatal mental health, their social support needs, and their treatment preferences in order to provide culturally sensitive and equitable care. Her research includes central tenets of equity, empowerment, participation, and collaboration to improve the health of migrant women in British Columbia and Canada. She has experience working with collaborative interdisciplinary research teams enabling her to direct research focused on client benefit in primary health care, perinatal care, access to services and challenging health inequities.
