June 4 , 2012 –Today, Vancouver Foundation joined other charities, organizations and individuals across Canada in expressing concern about the federal government’s proposed legislation in Bill C-38.
On the same day as environmental groups everywhere joined in “Blackout Speakout,” Canada’s largest community foundation shared its concern about the broader implications of the omnibus bill on charities and their role in informing public debate.
“Charities are more than mere service providers; we help guide policy decisions by offering our expert knowledge of social issues,” said Faye Wightman, President and CEO of Vancouver Foundation.
“Part of that work involves funding research, sparking public dialogue and tackling complex social issues. We are proud of the role charities have played in helping governments develop well thought out policy that is in the best interests of all Canadians. For the sake of our communities, we need to ensure that vital role is protected.”
