Project Description
Jess Housty is a Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk) land-based educator and community organizer. She works as a fundraiser for Qqs Society, an Indigenous non-profit in Bella Bella, and serves her Nation as an elected tribal councillor. Her educational background is in literature and she is a poet, avid reader, and occasional freelance journalist. Jess is a past recipient of the Ecotrust Indigenous Leadership Award and the UVic Provost’s Award for Advocacy & Activism. She is also the Founder and Director of the Thistalalh Memorial Library. She resides in unceded Haíɫzaqv homelands with her partner and two children.
