Sarah Morgan-Silvester Joins Vancouver Foundation Board of Directors

Vancouver Foundation today announced the appointment of Sarah Morgan-Silvester, Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Vancouver Foundation today announced the appointment of Sarah Morgan-Silvester, Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Ms. Morgan-Silvester has extensive experience across North America in the financial services sector. She is a Director of ENMAX Corporation and a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of Westerkirk Capital Inc. As former Executive Vice President, Wealth Management, for HSBC Bank Canada, Ms. Morgan-Silvester had national business line accountability for retail banking, internet banking, full service and self-directed brokerage, asset management, trust, insurance and private banking businesses. She also served as President and CEO of HSBC Trust Company (Canada) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers.

Ms. Morgan-Silvester serves on the University of British Columbia’s Board of Governors and as a Director and Past Chair of BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre Foundation.

Her past affiliations include: Chair of Port Metro Vancouver; Chair, Vancouver Port Authority; Chair, HSBC Securities; Chair of Blue Ribbon Council on Vancouver’s Business Climate; Chair, HSBC Trust Company (Canada); Chair, HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc.; Chair, HSBC Investment Funds (Canada) Inc.; Director, Canadian Direct Insurance Inc.; Director, CD Howe Institute; and Member, David Suzuki Foundation National Business Advisory Council.

Ms. Morgan-Silvester has received numerous awards in recognition of her achievements including: Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012; Association of Women in Finance Lifetime Achievement Award; Influential Women in Business Award; Canada’s Top 40 under 40 Award; and she has been named one of BC’s 100 Women of Influence; and included in Vancouver Magazine’s Power 50 list.

With almost 1,500 funds and assets totaling $814 million, Vancouver Foundation is Canada’s largest community foundation. In 2012, Vancouver Foundation and its donors made more than 4,000 grants, totaling approximately

$46 million to registered charities across Canada. Since it was founded in 1943, Vancouver Foundation, in partnership with its donors, has distributed more than $917 million to thousands of community projects and programs. Grant recipients range from social services to medical research groups, to organizations devoted to arts and culture, the environment, education, children and families, disability supports for employment, youth issues and animal welfare.
